Our Bio

Community Implementing Initiative (COMMII) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) who’s catchment area is Nairobi slums especially Mukuru, Mathare Huruma, Korogocho, Lucky summer, Kariobangi, Baba dogo and Eastleigh. Our organization was registered in 2006. Since then, our core objective was women with HIV Aids. We tested many and organised many support groups for them which helped them up to date. We referred many for treatment in different CCC’s and focused on Home Based Care for those who were bedridden. Since 2017 our main objective had to change to suit the need of our clients whom we found had other infections and needs. As they were being treated, we found out 95% of the women were young girls who due to fear of stigma could not use condom hence conceiving at tender age.

Since then (2017), we focused on the community that is encapsulated by the young women in and out of school (school drop outs due to early pregnancies), and young men who at the pick of their youth feel cannot be infected and have not been sensitized of the effects of HIV/AIDS.

It is imperative to highlight the importance of recognizing that the various populations represented by this group are distinct groups, each with its own special health-related concerns and needs. We believe it is essential to emphasize these differences because in some contemporary scientific disclosure and in the popular media, these groups are routinely treated as child/underage prostitutes which is not the case. At the same time, these group (young girls), have many experiences in common, key among them being the experience of stigmatization, discrimination, violence, health rights and human rights violations presenting negative health implications for each them in the community since they are not working and many have dropped out of school either due to pregnancy, mental health or GBV in most of the households in the informal settlements.
